The developer behind Hexham’s 45 luxury apartment scheme, The Wool House, is continuing with the strategy of working with local companies as construction work now begins moving at speed on site.

In June, Matthew Charlton of Hexham was appointed to supply all the kitchens for the scheme and the developer has now announced that carpets will be supplied by Karpet Mills, which is only a short distance from the development on Gilesgate, while Northumbria Stone Products of Haltwhistle is supplying split-faced stonework and dressed natural stone heads and sill components as well as stone for the boundary walls.

Ibstock of Throckley, another local company, has supplied the bricks.

Since June, Wool House development director, Bob Skelly, has been working closely with Matthew Charlton’s kitchen designer, Clare Rees, and award-winning interior design consultancy, Dakota House of Design, Newcastle, on the detailed kitchen designs for the scheme where there are seven repeated apartment styles throughout and 13 special one-off apartment layouts.

As Mr Skelly explains, it has taken some time to come up with a range of highly individual kitchen layouts to suit all the various styles of The Wool House apartments, which include one and two-bedroom, duplex and penthouse apartment options.  He said:

“Progress is really gaining pace now and the plumbing and electrical first fix and boarding are well underway.  Aside from agreeing the detailed kitchen designs, we have also been finalising bathrooms and tiling throughout with our supplier, Porcelanosa, on Scotswood Road, Newcastle.

“The neutral colour scheme we have chosen will provide the perfect backdrop for buyers so that no matter their taste in furniture and furnishings, the décor will blend in seamlessly.”

Commenting on his decision to continue buying local, Mr Skelly said:

“As a local business ourselves, we believe in the value of reinvesting in the local community whenever possible and with a large development like The Wool House, orders for fixtures, fittings, kitchens and sanitaryware are sizeable, so it is great to be able to keep this revenue within the local area.

“Supply chains are still challenging, so by working with local companies it gives us a little more control.”

Head of residential, Will Thornton, at the YoungsRPS Hexham office on Priestpopple, added:

“The Wool House is unique within the immediate area – there is no other development like it in Cumbria or Northumberland – and for this reason, interest from potential buyers remains strong because The Wool House offers all the convenience of city living yet within a pretty market town setting – it really is the perfect location and it is so close to a wide range of retail and leisure facilities.

“Never a week goes by without a constant flow of people calling into the office to ask for an update and we now have a significant waiting list who are all keen to find out when the show apartment will be opening.

“An emailer will be sent out in the next week or so to those who are on the database and those who have already made a reservation, providing them with up to the minute details about what is going on behind the scenes and what is planned.

“If anyone is interested in finding out more and you are not yet on our database, please call YoungsRPS to register your details.”
